Sunseeker
International, Formula Fastech, Boston Whaler, Donzi, Vanguard and
Northshore Yachts are some of the users of Plexus Structural Adhesives
for a variety of applications, including: Composite stringers, liners
and deck to hull bonding.
Unlike other bonding systems that require extensive
surface preparation and sanding, Plexus Structural Adhesives require
minimal or no surface preparation, in most cases, thus reducing
VOC and dust emissions in the work place.

STRUCTURAL BONDING OF STRINGERS IN HIGH-PERFORMANCE
BOATS
Traditional construction methods for high- performance
boats use plywood eggcrate and heavy glass epoxy laminate within
the hull structure to provide the power, rigidity, security, and
ride qualities needed for extreme speed over the water.
Thunderbird Products of Decatur, IN, builders
of Formula Boats, has come up with a labour saving alternative to
this type of plywood construction. Several Formula models now use
a glass fiber/ epoxy structural grid which is bonded to the inside
of the hull using Plexus "Fibreglass Fusion" Adhesives.

Pat Laux, Product Development Manager for Thunderbird,
claims the grid within the FAS3Techmultiplane hull increases hull
bottom strength by 20% and side by 10%, with no additional weight
or labour.
Thunderbird chose Plexus Adhesives because their
advanced methacrylate technology elimates the surface preparation
and priming required with a urethane- based adhesive.
DECK TO HULL BONDING
Strong and Durable
Innovative boatbuilders are turning to new composite materials for
strength and reliability. Composite stringer, liner and hull assemblies
bonded with Plexus Adhesives offer exceptional flexibility, durability
and impact strength.
Reduce
Assembly Costs
Because Plexus Adhesive chemically "fuse" fiberglass and
composite so strongly, the fiberglass or composite will delaminate
before the Plexus bond fails. You will find Plexus Adhesives easy
to use, needing no primers, sanding or grinding, virtually eliminating
surface preparation in most cases. This means your assembly times
can be significantly reduced and manufacturing processes simplified.
